Hubbard confirmed this using the Scientific method. The artist uses color to represent symbolically components of the Universe.
The earth is represented by the dark green.  The sky and deep space above the earth are represented by blue and red blue pigments.  The curve of the "Earth in Green" is reversed to symbolize that the spiritual beings home is deep space and sky.  On the original painting the deep space portion has a texture.
